WHAT IS A NATIONAL MEDICAL CERTIFICATION?

Medical certifications are credentials awarded to individuals as a means of guaranteeing their level of medical skill and knowledge. Medical certificates are typically associated with providing a specific type of health care or service. NPTAA offers national medical certifications that are transferable from state to state.

WHY SHOULD I BECOME NATIONALLY CERTIFIED? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Earning a medical certification with NPTAA can provide several specific benefits for medical professionals in a variety of fields. These include:

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO TAKE AN NPTAA CERTIFICATION EXAM? HOW DO I QUALIFY TO SIT FOR AN NPTAA EXAM?

Candidates can qualify to sit for an NPTAA exam in three ways:


Pathway #1:

  • You successfully completed a program that included medical training in your chosen medical field within the last 5 years and you have received your high school diploma or GED.​

Pathway #2:

  • You can produce an official letter (on company letterhead) from a past or present employer stating that you have two years' experience or more. 


Pathway #3:

  •  You have worked in the medical field in this country or abroad and can submit proof such as a medical or college degree, vocational diploma, or military certificate.​ (This is only after the documentation has been assessed and approved by one of the companies listed on the NYC Foreign Education Evaluation Guide. HOW DO I REGISTER TO TAKE AN NPTAA EXAM?

To register to take an NPTAA exam you must create an account within our testing portal. Make sure to fill out all the required information.

Follow these steps to schedule an exam:

  1. Create a New Account by clicking here.

  2. Log into your newly created account.

  3. Click on "Register for an Exam" 

  4. Choose the exam you would like to register for 

  5. Click on the + button to see the delivery options (i.e.  in-person testing center or online proctored). 

  6. Click Buy Now 

  7. Choose an available  date and time 

  8. Agree to NPTAA's attestation 

HOW CAN I PREPARE/STUDY FOR MY NPTAA EXAM?

Various study materials are available for purchase at the NPTAA store. Including online practice exams and study guides. NPTAA does not require you to purchase these materials before sitting for your exam but we do recommend them. 

WHERE WILL I TAKE MY EXAM?

You’ll take the exam either at an NPTAA affiliated school, a Kryterion testing center near you, or through live remote proctoring (online) at the location of your choice.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE TESTING SITE?

  1. You must bring your Exam Authorization Code. If you fail to bring it, the proctor will not be able to launch your exam, and it may cause your exam session to be forfeited without a refund.

  2. Two (2) forms of identification. One must be a government-issued photo ID. Secondary identification must include your printed name such as a credit card, bank debit card, or employee identification card.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In the United States, a Social Security Card is not an acceptable form of identification.

HOW CAN I RESCHEDULE MY EXAM THROUGH KRYTERION?

In-person (On-site) Exams:

You may cancel or reschedule an exam through your Webassessor portal with no additional fee up to 72 hours prior to your scheduled exam time.


If you do not reschedule your exam at least 72 hours before your scheduled exam time, the cost of your exam is forfeited and you must register and repurchase the exam. 

Online Exams:

You may cancel or reschedule an exam through your Webassessor portal with no additional fee up to 24 hours prior to your scheduled exam time.


If you do not reschedule your exam at least 24 hours before your scheduled exam time, the cost of your exam is forfeited and you must register and repurchase the exam. 

I DID NOT PASS MY EXAM? HOW SOON CAN I RETAKE IT?

Candidates who do not pass the exam on their first or second attempt are able to re-apply to sit for the exam again immediately.

  • If you do not pass after your third or fourth attempt, you must wait 30 days to challenge the exam again.

  • After your fifth attempt, you must wait 6 months between attempts.

Please note: you must pay for each exam retake.

We encourage candidates to purchase a test review package in preparation for the exam.

DOES NPTAA PROVIDE SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS ?

NPTAA will provide reasonable and appropriate testing accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) for candidates with documented disabilities who request and demonstrate the need for accommodation, as required by law.

WHEN DO I GET MY EXAM RESULTS?

Online exams: Candidates will receive an email within 48 hours notifying

them of their exam results. For most exams, preliminary results are available immediately after your test.


Paper exams: within 24 hours of NPTAA’s receipt of the answer sheets (which may be up to 10 business days after the exam date).

WHERE IS MY CERTIFICATION SENT?

Certifications, certification wallet cards, and score results are confidential and are provided directly to candidates.

Candidates will have access to view, download, and print their certification(s) in their digital wallet through their Certemy account portal. 

Information that is not considered confidential and may be shared with schools or employers includes certification status, certification number, and the current status of certification. 

HOW DO I RENEW/ KEEP MY NPTAA CERTIFICATION CURRENT?

Your certification MUST be renewed every two years.

To stay current, you must complete 8 continuing education credits and pay a recertification fee every two years.

WHAT IS NPTAA'S REFUND POLICY?

There are no refunds offered on certification exams unless the scheduled exam date is canceled by NPTAA. *Certification exams can be rescheduled. 


Exams are non-refundable and non-transferable and must be taken by the person who is registered for the exam.


All sales of study materials, study guides, packages, practice assessments, and any other product are final. There are no refunds offered on NPTAA study materials.
