Take your exam. Choose one of the following scheduling options to sit for your exam: 

  • An NPTAA affiliate testing center near you 

  • Your school or medical training facility

CMA EXAM ELIGIBILITY

Certification pathways are as easy as 1, 2, 3!

You successfully completed a program that included medical training in the field of medical assistance within the last 5 years and you possess a high school diploma or GED.

You may also qualify if: 

You can produce an official letter (on company letterhead) from a past or present employer stating that you have two years experience or more. 

Additional Pathways

You have worked in the medical field in this country or abroad and can submit proof such as a medical or college degree, vocational diploma, or military certificate. 


This is only after the documentation has been assessed and approved by one of the companies listed on the NYC Foreign Education Evaluation Guide. Contact NPTAA for more information. 

If you meet the criteria in Box 1, 2 or 3 you are eligible to sit for your NPTAA certification exam!

Please note that all documentation will be verified by NPTAA and  must be submitted prior to receiving your certification.
